Mr. Minich requires the following in order to write a student's
college
recommendation:
- be sure to give him at least two weeks
to write a recommendation.
- the college's official teacher recommendation request form that came with
the application - First fill in the appropriate areas your name, his name
(type it as "Mr. Curtis Minich"), Wyomissing's CEEB code 395 410,
etc. It is recommended that you type information on important application
forms such as college applications. You must make
sure that the institution knows that you care about quality and that you
are willing to take the time to present yourself in the best light possible.
A
typewriter is available in the Guidance Office.
- if present on a college's form, you must sign the optional waiver to waive
your rights to read the recommendation.
- an appropriately addressed (preferably typed), stamped envelope. Use the
the following return address, not your home address.
WYOMISSING AREA JR/SR HIGH SCHOOL
ATTN: MR MINICH
630 EVANS AVE
WYOMISSING PA 19610
- a list of your accomplishments and other noteworthy experiences
that he might be able to include within his letter of recommendation. Do
not be humble but, rather, list ALL of the things you can think of that distinguish
you
from
others applying
to the college. Be sure to list ALL computer & technology-related things
that you have done since the nature of his essay will probably focus on
such
characteristics. While he will not lie about your experiences, he may overlook
things that you have done otherwise. Also, some things do not naturally "fit"
anywhere else on a college application, so the teacher recommendation may
be the only means of telling the college admissions officials about certain
things that you have done.
- an unofficial transcript or list of
the courses that you have taken and your final grades in those courses. Definitely,
provide him with the grades that you have received in courses that he taught
so that he does not have to look them up.
- a piece of paper with a list of each college (use the exact name of the
college), whether the college uses the Common Application form or not, the
due date for the recommendation for each college, to whom the recommendation
is to
be
delivered,
and any
special instructions. For example,
Harvard University due Jan. 1, 2005 mail
in enclosed envelope
University of Pennsylvania due Nov. 1, 2004 mail
in enclosed envelope. I am applying early decision to this
college.
Carnegie Mellon University due Jan. 1, 2005 deliver
to my counselor Mrs Kreps in sealed envelope
University of Pittsburgh due
Mar. 15, 2005 use Common Application and mail in enclosed envelope
- supply all of the items above in a folder.
This will keep the papers from being bent or damaged. Label the outside
of the folder with
your name, a list
of the colleges, and the due date for the recommendation to each college.
