Applied Computers Course Scope & Sequence

7th grade Computer Keyboarding - 574 (4.5 weeks)
Students learn to type with Mavis Beacon, touch-typing with all keys. Students should be able to use File/Open, Edit/Font, Help from Assistant, file management including use of network file server.
8th grade Word Processing - 582 (9 weeks)
Students will use Mavis Beacon to review & strengthen typing skills. They will do projects in chapters 1 & 2 of Word and chapters 1 & 2 in Excel. Students will also learn the basics of the Internet. (We need to come up with the specific Internet objectives & competencies.) Students must also have a firm, thorough command of file management (folder creation, file location, File/Save As, etc.)
9th grade Applied Computers I - 501 (semester)
Formerly, Word Projects 1-4 and Excel Projects 1, 2, 6 have been covered with 2-3 weeks of Internet activities.
However, in 2001-2002 or possibly sooner, the curriculum will change to Word Projects 3-6 and Excel Projects 3, 4, & 6.
Applied Computers II - 502 (semester)
Formerly, Word Projects 5, 6 and Excel Projects 3-5 have been covered.
However, in 2001-2002 or possibly sooner, the curriculum will change to Excel Project 5 and Access Projects 1-?.
Applied Computers III - 503 (semester)
Formerly, Access Projects 1 - 6 have been covered along with a unit on desktop publishing using PageMaker.
However, in 2001-2002 or sooner, the curriculum will change to Access Projects ? and a more thorough introduction of desktop (PageMaker) or Web publishing.
