2001-2002 Department Meetings

May 29, 2002:

  1. Results of survey of interest in the Classroom Connect Conference in Baltimore on Oct 24 & 25.
  2. (BA, LM, & CM) Do we need to order any more Applied Computer & other textbooks for replacements based on next year's expected enrollment? I'll be asking you to turn in a book inventory next week.
  3. (MF, LM, CM) Writing curriculum over the summer (CM - Data Structures, MF - Multimedia II, & LM - Modern Legal Concepts)
  4. Next meeting will be held when dep't meetings are scheduled on one of the in-service days in August.
  5. (CM) This summer: print selected questions from ethics quizzes & circulate to dept members to generate Wyo customized questions, check hotel prices & submit budget requisition for Classroom Connect conference. Review & revise the 7-9th grade computer curriculum. Any necessary changes due to incoming students' abilities? Reference against National standards. Also, review & evaluate K-6 curriculum. Order another set of Word 2002 teacher textbook as well as HTML textbooks for Applied III. We will be recommending a change in the Applied III curriculum next year.

Apr. 24, 2002:

  1. Any interest in the Classroom Connect Conference in Baltimore on Oct 24 & 25?
  2. Discuss how ethics can be integrated into activities in your present courses. Perhaps, we can use quizzes that we've found on the Internet on the first day of class. Let's develop one for our computer classes by surveying those on the Internet and then generating our own applicable questions? Try to include questions relevant to our District network policy as well as what we consider to be cheating.
  3. (BA, CM, & LM) Any additional budget items to update for next year?
  4. (CM) Review & revise the 7-9th grade computer curriculum. Any necessary changes due to incoming students' abilities? Reference against National standards.
  5. (CM) Review & evaluate K-6 curriculum.
  6. (BA, LM, CM) Web design in Applied III? Use Dreamweaver?
  7. Last meeting will be held on Wed. May 29 at 2:30 pm in Room 202.

Feb. 27, 2002:

  1. Do any courses need to have the curriculum developed this summer? Who will be writing the course? Are there any courses that you would like to work from an outline for a year before writing the curriculum? Do we have to purchase any "new curriculum" textbooks this summer?
  2. The PA Computer Fair Contest at BCIU on will be held on April 3. Think about sponsoring students. See the poster on the inside of my door in Room 202.
  3. Discuss the cheating policy for our dep't (i.e. computer ethics). Draw up a list of examples.
  4. (BA, LM) Fill out Final Exam Data Sheet for C. Babb
  5. (BA, LM) Take budget requisitions form & return by our next dept meeting on Wed Mar 20.
  6. (BA, LM) Would anyday between Tue, Mar 12 and Thu, Mar 15 be suitable to visit the Hill School to see Blackboard.com?
  7. (BA, LM, CM) Discuss any general issues regarding next year's Bus/Comp budget. I'll need to submit budget requisitions in the next month or so.
  8. (BA, LM) Review the Office textbooks and discuss our decision to move to Office XP in Fall 2003 with the new labs in 406 & 407.
  9. (BA) Will be attending March curriculum meeting for new Accounting textbook.
  10. Next meeting will be held on Wed. Mar. 20 at 2:30 pm in Room 202.

Jan. 30, 2002:

  1. Are the course listings for your courses in the current Program of Studies booklet correct?
  2. Any interest in chaperoning selected student projects at the Berks County Student Technology Showcase this year? It is Sunday April 21 from 11 am - 5 pm at the Fairgrounds Square Mall. See flier for details.
  3. The PA Computer Fair Contest at BCIU on will be coming up in early April. Think about sponsoring students. Ian J. & Jason Y. won awards two years ago and got to travel to the State Capitol.

  3. Please forward modified descriptions for course listings in the Program of Studies booklet to me by Wed. Dec. 12.
  4. Any interest in going to the PA Ed Tech Conference in Feb.? (www.petc.org)
  5. (if time & interest) Build a two-minute Web page.

Oct 31, 2001:

  1. Make a motion to appoint MS as refreshments coordinator for Wed. Nov 28 meeting.

  5. What characteristics could or should we propose to Mrs. Roy on Nov 5 from 2:15 - 3:00 pm for Dr. Walker's successor?
  6. Review the 4 Year Technology plan and how it affects our computer labs & curriculum. Next year's budgets are being drawn up early due to changes in administration.

Oct 10, 2001:

  3. Discuss the department focus areas:
    • Continue to review and evaluate curriculum extending into K-6
    • Review and revise the 7-9th grade computer curriculum as technology changes and incoming student abilities change
    • Continue to develop technology skills of the dept faculty and pilot instrxnal technologies (esp. those marked in the District's 4 yr tech. plan)
    • Continue to review and integrate activities on computer ethics (copyright, etc.) in all K-12 courses
  4. Discuss the ethics focus area in light of the Board's current AUP revision.
  5. We need to propose any major changes to next year's Program of Studies book by Mon. Oct. 22. Major changes include the addition of new courses, changes in course requirements, or the elimination of courses. Small changes in course descriptions can wait....but please work on these now if possible and forward them to CM by our next dept meeting.
  6. Please list your courses, class periods, number of students, and number of student workstations (or shop capacity) on the form that I pass around.

  9. (BA, LM) Have you tried the EduTrain online courses yet? You could use this as your INSYS 400 online course experience!
  10. (LM) Did you take any In-Service workshops over the summer that need to be paid for out of dep't funds?
  11. (BA, CM) CM is still trying to contact Robert Fulton of Tamaqua HS to learn more about SAM and to possibly observe its use?
  12. (if time - BA, CM, & LM) Discuss and/or preview Course CBT & Skill Measure demos along with the MS Word 2000 MOUS Certification Review textbook from Pam Cooper.
  13. (CM) TS is planning to install Office 2000 on the standalone PC in Room 202. Those interested in obtaining MOUS certification thru the BCIU can practice there. BCIU charges $65 per exam & $60 for 4 hrs of training per person. Scanners need to be installed in BA & LM labs.

Aug. 21, 2001:

  1. Discuss textbook inventory.
  2. Discuss budget requisitions. Did everything come in over the summer that you ordered?
  3. Discuss readiness of computer labs. List and prioritize your technology needs from Roy. Get your student rosters to the Tech. Coord. early next year if you want passwords to be activated by the first day or two of class.
  4. What is the revised # of available computer workstation for student use? Make the Guidance Dept aware of your hardware limitations to avoid overflow situations.
  5. Re-introduce department home page.
  6. Re-introduce our department mailing list. We will now be using topica.com as a mailing list host. You must resubscribe.
  7. Check out www.unitedstreaming.com for free online streaming movies that can be used with your students. Although, at this time there are no titles applicable to the Business, Tech Ed, or Computer Science subjects that we teach. See CM for a username & password if you want to check it out anyway
  8. Remember that you can always purchase personal software thru campustech.com, schoolworld.com, & other academic retailers at big discounts.
  9. LM, How difficult is the MOUS practice exam?
