Goals in the 2008-2013 WASD Strategic Plan related to our subcommittee's mission
From Anita Verno CSTA Curriculum Committee Chair (May 2009):
We need your help! The societal impact of computing is undeniable, affecting children even younger than kindergarten age. The rapid pace of technology change creates a need for students to be taught the underlying principles and concepts upon which digital technology is built. Successful computer science education in high school cannot exist without a solid foundation in K-8.
We have just posted the draft of our Level I Objectives and Outlines and we really would like your feedback. This document presents the learning objectives and sample educational activities for the Level I course described in “A Model Curriculum for K-12 Computer Science: Final Report of the ACM K-12 Task Force Curriculum Committee.” Our hope is that this document presents K-8 computer science in way that is age-appropriate, engaging, and sets students on a path towards a lifetime of healthy interaction with technology and leadership in the digital 21st century. Please review this proposed K-8 computer science curriculum and provide feedback about its viability and appropriateness as preparation for high school course work. We are hoping for (and appreciate) comments pertaining to our omissions, confusions, and errors at all levels from the most conceptual to the most specific. You can download the document from our website at: http://csta.acm.org/Curriculum/sub/Implementation.html
Your comments on this document should be sent via email to the CSTA Level I curriculum committee at: cstacurriculum@csta.acm.org. Your help is needed NOW before the Level I Objectives and Outlines document is finalized on July 31st. Thanks very much!
