May 23, 2001

  1. Check out www.unitedstreaming.com for free online streaming movies that can be used with your students. Although, at this time there are no titles applicable to the Business, Tech Ed, or Computer Science subjects that we teach. See CM for a username & password if you want to check it out anyway
  2. Additional TEC workshops available at the BCIU this summer. CM & MF are each teaching one.

Apr. 25, 2001

  1. Remember that In-Service workshops (at BCIU and elsewhere) are generally paid for out of the dep't budget. Let me know for budgeting purposes if you are planning to attend these kinds of workshops or conferences.
  2. TS is planning to install Office 2000 on the standalone PC in Room 202. Those of us interested in obtaining MOUS certification through the BCIU ($65 per exam plus $60 for 4 hours of training per person) can practice there.
  3. CM will be teaching Penn State's INSYS 400 (see former syllabus too) next year over 10 Tuesday's from 3:30-6:30 pm at the Hills. If you need some grad credits, he highly recommends taking the course.
  4. Next meeting will be held on Wed. May 23 at 2:30 pm in Room 202.
  5. (BA, CM) CM is still trying to contact Robert Fulton of Tamaqua HS to learn more about SAM and to possibly observe its use?

Mar. 28, 2001

  1. We can obtain MOUS certification through the BCIU for $65 per exam plus $60 for 4 hours of training per person. Arrange with CM to take the Practice MOUS exam! There are two levels of MOUS certification.
  2. Any 2001-2002 budget questions or issues?
  3. Any interest in chaperoning selected student projects at the Berks County Student Technology Showcase this year? It is Sunday April 22 from 11 am - 5 pm at the Fairgrounds Square Mall.
  4. Any interest in chaperoning selected student projects at the State Capitol Student Technology Showcase which will be held on Tuesday April 10? The application deadline is today ;-)
  5. Reminder: LM will be writing the curriculum for 8th grade Word Processing (582) this summer. MF will be writing the curriculum for Multimedia II next summer. BF will be writing the curriculum for Accounting I next summer. CM will be writing the Data Structures course next summer.

Feb. 28, 2001

  1. PA Computer Fair Contest at BCIU on April 5. Anyone else interested in taking students?
  2. Discuss our Dept's needs for the District's next 3-year Technology Plan. Submit your individual requests to CM on a "Technology Needs Assessment" form by Wed. Mar. 7.
  3. Introduce and circulate the library's Vocational Biographies career profiles.
  4. Anyone interested in being MOUS certified on Sat. Apr 14 in Lebanon, PA ($250)? See circulated flyer.
  5. Anyone interested in learning how to administer & install a Windows NT network over 5 days in May?
  6. (BA, LM, CM) Discuss any general issues regarding next year's Bus/Comp budget. Submit your budget requisitions to CM by Wed. Mar. 28.
  7. BA demonstration of using online quizzes. BA & CM demonstration of Web authoring and uploading a Web page with Dreamweaver.

Jan. 31, 2001

  1. BCIU's Technology Enriched Curriculum Program. You can earn $400 teaching an 8 hour summer workshop. See the flyer.
  2. PA Computer Fair Contest at BCIU on April 5. Anyone else interested in taking students?
  3. Any technology vocabulary (e.g. byte, bit, multimedia) that should be added to the school's Trivial Pursuit game? If so, forward a list of terms and phrases to CM.
  4. Any issues or questions regarding course selection?
  5. Any issues or questions regarding the District Technology Committee (MF, BA, CM are members)? "Within the broad framework created by the steering committee, we need to have each dep't submit specific requests for technology to be integrated into the dep't curriculum." Who would like to serve on the building level committee?
  6. Any interest in attending MICCA at the Baltimore Convention Center on March 7 & 8? (See www.miccaonline.org.)
  7. Discuss "Surreptitious Inclusion of Good Teaching in Test Preparation Activities" article from EB.

Nov. 29, 2000:

  1. Review the Semester Exam Data sheet to make any corrections.
  2. Discuss any necessary changes to the 2000-01 Program of Studies booklet. Notice that our department course descriptions are linked at the top of this Department Home Page (see "Course Descriptions" above).
  3. Please photocopy your Tom/Roy technology requests in order to keep a log.
  4. Any interest in going to the PA Ed Tech Conference in Feb.? (www.petc.org)
  5. Next meeting will be held on Wed. Dec. 20 at 2:30 pm in Room 202. (Make-up date for Oct. meeting.)

Sep. 27, 2000:

  1. Any significant changes for next year? New or revised courses?
  2. MF presentation of iMovie.
  3. Review the graduation project list to make sure that it is up-to-date regarding our dep't courses.
  4. Common midterm and final exams? Any issues?
  5. Review CM's proposed dep't focus areas:

Aug. 22, 2000:

  1. Discuss textbook inventory.
  2. Discuss budget requisitions. Did everything come in over the summer that you ordered?
  3. Discuss readiness of computer labs. List and prioritize your technology needs from Roy. Get your student rosters to the Tech. Coord. early next year if you want passwords to be activated by the first day or two of class.
  4. What is the revised # of available computer workstation for student use? Make the Guidance Dept aware of your hardware limitations to avoid overflow situations.
  5. Re-introduce department home page.
  6. Re-introduce our department mailing list.
  7. Explain how you can set up a mailing list at listbot.com to use in your classroom or organization.
  8. In general, our monthly department meetings are scheduled for the first Wed. of each month in Room 202 at 2:30 pm. Our next meeting will be held on Wed., Oct. 4. MF will preview iMovie.
  9. (BA, LM, CM) Discuss the revised Applied Computers Scope & Sequence that was discussed in June.
  10. (BA, LM, CM) Does everyone have a Shelly-Cashman instructor's CD-ROM and access to the Web site?
  11. (BA, LM, CM) Is Altiris working in all labs?
  12. (BA, CM) Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash need to be installed on your PC.
  13. (BA, CM) SAM & MOUS.
  14. (CM) Get 6th grade computer curriculum. Make sure Excel, etc. Add-ins and Internet Ass't is working in labs. Standalone machines in library with Office & programming apps. Scanners installed.
