2002-2003 Department Meetings

May 28 , 2003:

  1. The "wish list" has been submitted.
  2. List the specific applications that are used in each computer lab.
  3. Teachers interested in serving on the next District Technology committee need to express interest to EB.
  4. Don't forget the August 7 in-service meeting and to schedule 3 hrs over the summer with Tom to set up your computer lab.
  5. Remember to use the online computer/technology work request database.
  6. (BA, LM, CM) Review the outline and curriculum writing assignments for new courses that CM submitted in February. BA - Acct I full curriculum this summer. CM - VB, Java, Data St full curriculum this summer. BA - Acct II, Applied II outline this summer with full curriculum next summer (2004). CM or BA - Applied III outline this summer with full curriculum next summer (2004).
  7. (BA, LM, CM) Discuss our scope & sequence for Applied II & III. Discuss Applied III's curriculum (web design, MOUS?).
  8. (BA, LM, CM) Discuss further the possibility of making Applied Computers I a requirement for either 9th OR 10th grade as well as giving the option of placement by exam in 2004-05.
  9. (if time) Review of computer copyright & ethics.
  10. (CM) Get list of elementary software from Janet K & Gail P. & refine the scope & sequence.

  12. Our next meeting will be held August 7 for a Technology Standards review.

Apr 30, 2003:

  1. Submit our individual "wish lists" that we were directed to make at the January Tech Ed/Computer curriculum review meeting. The wish list is meant to give the administration a list of powers and abilities that would help individual teachers teach in their labs. Each teacher's wish list will be forward to Mr. Hartman.
  2. Our next meeting will be held on Wed May 28 at 2:30 pm in Room 202.

Apr 9, 2003:

  1. Review our individual "wish lists" that we were directed to make at the January Tech Ed/Computer curriculum review meeting. The wish list is meant to give the administration a list of powers and abilities that would help individual teachers teach in their labs. Each teacher's wish list should be forwarded to CM by our Apr. 30 department meeting. He will then forward them to Bill Hartman.
  2. Review the expected 2003-04 projected class enrollments against the number of computers in each lab. Keyboarding - 146; Word Proc - 162; Applied I - 147; Applied II - 11; Applied III - 4; Basic - 34; Java - 21; Data St - 14; Accounting - 19. MF & JS, we will have to check with Betty or Bill to see your projected numbers.
  3. Review and consolidate our "Spring Semester Lab Update" and "2003-04 Lab Needs" spreadsheets that were recently forwarded to Tom.
  4. Remember to mark Aug 7 on your calendars for our Tech Standards review. Also, be ready to schedule a 3 hr session with Tom over the summer in your respective computer labs.
  5. If anyone's interested, I'll be teaching Flash for PSU on May 3 & May 10 as well as Web Design Graphics (Macromedia Fireworks) & Flash Animation at RACC this summer. The RACC Flash course is 8-10 am Mon & Wed and Web Design Graphics is 8:10-10:10 am Mon & Wed. See IST 6788 Web Animation at PSU WebPro as well as my RACC page.

Feb 26, 2003:

  1. Discuss Applied Computers III curriculum change to web design.
  2. Review outstanding 2002-03 budget items to make sure that CM's budget reflects what was actually received.
Jan 16, 2003 (dep't met with EB, BH, CB, & TS for Tech Ed/Computer Dep't Curriculum Review):
  1. Discuss state of the computer labs
  2. Discuss the administrations plan and time frame for hiring new network technician
  3. Discuss

Nov 20, 2002:

  1. Submit any prerequisites that you feel are necessary for next year's Course Book (e.g. student must attend class 5 days per week, student must earn C or better in course #???). Changes should be written in the margins as well as any appropriate max enrollment limits based on the number of computers that are currently operational in your lab.
  2. Discuss Computer Dept needs with CB.
  3. CM will demo an online computer/technology work request database.
  4. Next meeting will be held on Wed Jan 29 at 2:30 pm in Room 202. But BA, LM & CM will probably be meeting with Dr. B before then to discuss the Computer Dept Curriculum Review.

Oct. 30, 2002:

  1. Please review the prerequisite's in the 2002-03 Course Book for the courses that you teach. Please add any prerequisites that you feel are necessary for next year's Course Book (e.g. student must attend class 5 days per week, student must earn C or better in course #???). Please return your edited course book to CM by our next meeting (Nov. 20) with changes written in the margins as well as any appropriate max enrollment limits based on the number of computers that are currently operational in your lab.
  2. BA, LM, CM Review the textbook review copies that just came in.
  3. BA, if we need to purchase student accounting software from EDUNET, contact Vincent Nallo, Lackawanna County, 570-346-5955
  4. JM will have 19 PC's for CAD courses next year. TS told us to submit 1 less than the actual number of PC's in a given lab.
  5. CM will collect review copies of MS Office XP textbooks for the Jan meeting with EB on reviewing the dep't curriculum. At our Nov meeting, we must iron out our recommended scope and sequence for Applied II & III.
  6. Next meeting will be held on Wed Nov 20 at 2:30 pm in Room 202.

Sept. 24, 2002:

  1. Counselors review about mid-year course selections. Also discuss # of computers in each lab.
  2. We must forward any proposed changes (e.g. new courses, change in course requirements, elimination of courses) for next year's course book to Mr. Hartman by Mon Oct 21.
  3. Discuss budget requisitions. Did we receive everything that you ordered?
  4. Discuss readiness of computer labs. List and prioritize your technology needs for your Tech Coordinator including student logon accounts.
  5. Classroom Connect Conference (Oct 24/25) update. Don't forget to put in for substitute teacher.
  6. MF - How much did you get paid for each BCIU workshop?
  7. Next meeting will be held on Oct 30 at 2:30 pm in Room 202.
  8. CM's To-Do List: print selected questions from ethics quizzes & circulate to dept members to generate Wyo customized questions. Review & revise the 7-9th grade computer curriculum. Any necessary changes due to incoming students' abilities? Reference against National standards. Also, review & evaluate K-6 curriculum. Order another set of Word 2002 teacher textbook as well as HTML textbooks for Applied III. We will be recommending a change in the Applied III curriculum next year.

Aug. 20, 2002:

  1. (BA & LM) Submit textbook inventory lists. Do you need any more Applied Computer & other textbooks based on this year's enrollment?
  2. Discuss budget requisitions. Did everything come in over the summer that you ordered?
  3. Discuss readiness of computer labs. List and prioritize your technology needs for your Tech Coordinator including student logon accounts.
  4. What is the revised # of available computer workstation for student use? Make the Guidance Dept aware of your hardware limitations to avoid overflow situations.
  5. Remember that you can always purchase personal software thru campustech.com, schoolworld.com, & other academic retailers at big discounts.
  6. Next meeting will be held on Sep 25 at 2:30 pm in Room 202. See the remaining tentative meeting dates above. Typically, dep't meetings are scheduled for the last Wed. of each month.
  7. Remember to leave Oct 24 and/or Oct 25 open on your calendars for the Classroom Connect Conference in Baltimore.
